Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada welcomes U.S. President Donald Trump’s “historic new Middle East peace plan,” which Washington has asked Ottawa to sell to other nations.

Trump’s plan to put the Gaza Strip and its 2.1 million Palestinians under an international security force was endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.

Trump’s proposal, which has not yet received a response from Hamas, would see Gaza’s reconstruction and administration turned over to a “Board of Peace” led by the U.S. president and former British prime minister Tony Blair.

“We urge all parties to help it realize its full potential,” Carney wrote of the proposal late Monday on the platform X.

“We will continue our close co-ordination with international partners to build a just and lasting peace that builds on today’s progress, with a sovereign, democratic, and viable State of Palestine building its future in peace and security with the State of Israel.”

He said Canada is ready to support the large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre congratulated Trump “on negotiating peace in Gaza” in a post on X.

“It is time for Hamas to end its war against innocent civilians and allow peace for all,” he added.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said in a Monday interview with The Canadian Press that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio asked Canada to advance the proposal.
